FAQs

General

Q: I have no dance experience, can I show up to WLA monthly session?

A: Yes! We welcome anyone who is passionate and/or curious about dance and movement.

Q: Do you offer dance classes?

A: We have short, 1-hour classes before our monthly session. We do not offer regular dance classes at this time. However, we occasionally offer workshops with guest teachers and longer-term courses such as our Punk, Pose, Whack Beginner/Intermediate program from the previous Fall. Please follow us on IG and send us an email at whackingla@gmail.com if you have questions.

Q: What is the difference between Whacking and Waacking?

A: Whacking and Waacking are names that represent the evolution of the original form of this dance Punking all consisting of the same movement practices. We use the spelling Whacking as it makes us feel connected with the Punking roots and the origin of the dance from the Batman onomonopia “WHACK!”. To learn more history visit our landing page for more information.

Q: How can I contact your organization?

Please email us at whackingla@gmail.com. We do our best to respond to all inquiries within 24-72 hours. We ask for your patience as we are a small team of three people who work part time. We typically respond faster to email than IG direct messages.

All funds contributed from our session and other events go right back into the community - even a small contribution helps our organization stay growing and thriving.
