About Us

Whacking Los Angeles is a community organization dedicated to preserving and advancing the legacy of Punking and Whacking through dance education, events, and nurturing spaces. Founded in 2022, Whacking Los Angeles has become a community hub situated on Tongva land, offering monthly safe spaces that facilitate accessible dance education in the forms of Punking and Whacking, as well as creative movement. We also have hosted community events such as street-dance battles, showcases, and collaboration events with local organizations. In the past year, we have also been able to provide community dancers with performance opportunities as venues such as DTLA Proud Festival, Choreographer’s Carnival, Versastyle Street Dance Theatre Show, and The GR818ER’s AFA Festival.

Our spaces are designed to be welcoming and approachable, aiming to provide an inclusive platform for dance and artistic expression. At WLA, we hold dear to a culture of empathy, playfulness, and mindfulness, ensuring that every individual feels valued and supported in their creative journey. Our mission is to foster empowerment and collective liberation for the diverse queer and multicultural residents of Los Angeles, regardless of background or physicality.

We acknowledge that we are not the only resource in Los Angeles for Punking and Whacking training, but aim to serve as a landing point for those interested in the dance to grow. For other local class promotions and resources, please look out on our Instagram.
